Please protect your credentials carefully. Here are a few tips.

Do Not Share Passwords

Where possible, do not share passwords. If you need temporary help, try to log your assistant in so he can work. For longer-term temporary help, share the password; but change it as soon as assistance is no longer needed.

The helpdesk will not ask you for your password.

Notify the Helpdesk If Your Account Is Compromised

If you feel that your account has been compromised, call the Helpdesk immediately. They'll ask that you change your password. But, they'll also take steps to mitigate further damage.

Mandatory Password Expiration

The campus Password Policy requires a password change regularly. You'll be required to change your password after that time. If you know you've entered the correct password, but are denied access, your password has probably expired. Try the passwd command in an SSH session. You'll be allowed to change your password for some time after it expires if you have the old password. See the Account Maintenance Schedule for details.
